When will we go too far? How much time do we have left before the sins of our Nation cause God’s “hedge of protection” to be removed from America? It’s happened before. In fact, it was only God’s promises and His plan that stopped that nation from being completely annihilated from history.
More than 3000 years ago the nation of Israel was a powerhouse in the ancient world; conquering their neighbors and amassing unmatched wealth in their time. They became proud of what “they” accomplished and forgot about others in favor of themselves. In their hubris they began sacrificing their children to a statue in an effort to gain favor and increase financial blessings for their families; namely for their own self-interest. They would lay a newborn child in the statue’s arms until that child died. I can only imagine the horrific scene of an infant screaming in terror and begging for life, for comfort… only to die cold and alone.
How could they? This wasn’t just any sin, and God was ANGRY! But not like the kind of anger we experience, his anger burned towards the injustice committed against the helpless innocents. He was disappointed in His people; heartbroken that they couldn’t see the disaster they were walking into. And because He’s a “Just and Righteous” God who abides by the law he established, His protection for that Nation was withdrawn and the enemy of our souls (Satan) was released to cause havoc. The Nation of Israel was attacked, their capital city demolished, their Temple destroyed, and their people carried away into slavery and exile. This period in the Jewish history known as the Babylonian exile was a direct result of the gruesome sins of that Nation. And if not for God’s grace and His personal promises to Abraham and David, Israel would have disappeared from history like so many other Nations on earth.
If child sacrifice on the altar of self-interest doesn’t outrage and terrify you, then you probably need to stop reading this article. Let me say this again, this is terrifying! Is Israel’s history a glimpse into our future in America? With thunderous applause Americans just celebrated new laws in this country that make it easier for the children of this Nation to be sacrificed. But for what purpose? Let’s look at the Statistics.
The Guttmacher Institute (a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that supports legalized abortion) conducted a survey in 2004 regarding the reasons for why babies are being aborted. The numbers don’t lie, 92.5% of those surveyed stated the following reasons why they aborted their child: 1. Not ready for a child, 2. Can’t afford a baby, 3. Done having children, 4. Don’t want to be a single mother, 5. Not mature enough to raise a child, 6. Would interfere with education or career. All of these reasons boil down to the same bottom line; Self-interest. So, let me restate that, we are sacrificing our children on the altar of our own self-interest more than 90% of the time. When you look at the numbers this way, the argument for mass legalized abortion begins to fall apart.
On the other hand, abortion rights activists would argue that there are a multitude of other reasons why abortions are necessary. What about women impregnated by rapists (0.5% of all cases), fetuses with developmental issues (3% of all cases), or pregnancies that could risk the mother’s health (4% of all cases)? This is not an article that will debate those issues or attempt to explain God’s will for every possible scenario. I’m not the Holy Spirit and yes, I will use that as a cop-out because those individual situations otherwise distract from the larger issue.
Using recent data from the same NGO, we see that 881,000 children were aborted in 2017. Extrapolating the percentages in the survey described above, I could estimate that Americans sacrificed 814,925 children in 2017 alone; for our own self-interest. So, I ask again; how much time do we have left? Will God remove His protection and provision for our great and invincible Nation? <— (read with sarcasm)
I don’t know what Bible you’re reading but I can’t seem to find prophesies or promises that will save our Nation from total annihilation. So, what can we do to save our future generations? First and foremost, acknowledge that life begins at conception; there is no magical moment when a fetus becomes a human being. Our spirits and souls are present even before our first heartbeat. I know this because the Bible says this, but I’m sure that sounds like non-sense to someone who doesn’t share my faith. For those who do share my beliefs, look at Psalm 139:13 “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Or Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”. These verses highlight a heavenly Father (unlike ALL earthly fathers) who not only knew and prepared us for life but also knows and prepares our mothers with the grace and strength to raise us. Mothers, you are unrivaled, capable, and valuable beyond comprehension to each child you are blessed with.
However, if the thought of having a child is too much for you to bear; don’t despair. In America alone, there are approximately two million couples waiting to adopt a child, often times regardless of the child’s medical problems such as Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, HIV infection or terminally ill. Maybe God used you to create the seed of a miracle but placed in the adoptive parents a heart to water that seed and nurture it’s growth.
That sounds to me like a solution; a surplus of a solution in fact. Now is the time to stand up and be heard. This is an unpopular message in an increasingly divided and hostile political environment. But come on! If we can unite behind saving dogs from an outdated Chinese dog-eating festival every year, can’t we also come together for the future of our Nation and most importantly for the lives of our unborn children?
As new technology continues to shed further light on the process of conception and fetal development, I hope that future generations will look back on us in shame and disgrace. Similar to the way we view the slavery of our forefathers. We often ask “what could have justified such a cruel and inhumane act against a human being with certain inalienable rights?” I hope that sounds familiar but I also hope it won’t be too late.
P.S. If you or someone you love has been party to an abortion, and I cannot state this more adamantly, please understand this is not at all a judgement against you. My heart breaks for your personal sorrow and the suffering that has likely accompanied your loss. I would also like you to know that there is hope in forgiveness and Romans 8:1 tells us “With the arrival of Jesus, that fateful dilemma is resolved. Those who enter into Christ’s being-here-for-us no longer have to live under a continuous, low-lying black cloud. A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.”
